Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. - (In person meeting)

Guest Speaker, Sam Burruss spoke to us about Queen Rearing/Grafting and what he has learned. He shared his presentation along with explaining the various methods and tools he uses. Sam currently lives in Caroline County. He previously lived in Henrico for 18 years and he has been keeping bees since 2017. He now has about 45 hives.

Sam has learned everything on his own through watching you tube videos and he said he reads a lot.

Sam was interesting to listen to and was helpful in answering questions during his wrap up. It is always good to hear other methods of beekeeping!

John Beers presented the Treasurer’s Report:

Checkbook Balance - $2,259.67

Cash - $352.01

There are 11 copies of the Beekeeping Basics and 18 copies of the Field Guide to Honey Bees. There has been no activity to speak of except $5.00 interest.

John announced that Jill Kelly resigned her position as Vice President. He also said that he will send out an email about the proposed changes in the constitution and about electing officers. Both will need to be voted on. Currently we have not been collecting dues since the pandemic.

As far as electing officers, John said that if we do not have people stepping up to become officers, there will not be a club. We also need ideas on how to spread out the work load.

We had one member speak up to say that meeting at the church was such a long drive for him (40 min. one way). He will be checking out various places to see if perhaps we might entertain changing our meeting place. John asked other members at the meeting if the church was further or closer for them. The count seemed to be about 1/2 and 1/2.

John asked if we would be interested in having a social in June. A comment was made that it was too early to do that. We are just starting to meet again. Perhaps we should do that in the late summer and then maybe more members would attend.
