Presentation

GUEST SPEAKER: Aaron Evans - State Inspector

Topic: Year in Review

Aaron spoke to us about the beehive distribution program for 2019. He said all of the recipients will be inspected.

Aaron inspects in numerous counties which includes Buckingham, Cumberland, Orange and Louisa to name a few. Inspections of logs and lumber, nurseries, hemp crops, apple crops, tobacco and honey bees are examples of the types of inspections he performs. He also does pest surveys which include beetles, and gypsy moths.

We would call on Aaron if we are selling drawn wax/comb, selling bees, suspect disease like American Foul Brood &/or European Foul Brood or moving bees out of Virginia. He talked about how to identify AFB and EFB, test kits and when to call a veterinarian who would have to prescribe Terramycin. He also showed us a slideshow during his presentation. Aaron encouraged us to do mite counts and for us to DO SOMETHING for mite prevention! This presentation was very helpful and informative!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
