AGBA Constitution & By-Laws

THE CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF

THE APPLE GROVE BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION

 

 

ARTICLE 1 (NAME)

 

SECTION 1: NAME: The name of this organization shall be "The Apple Grove Beekeepers Association."

 

ARTICLE 2 (OBJECTIVES)

SECTION 1: OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this association shall be to encourage better beekeeping methods, to promote and work closely in a responsible manner with those forces working to improve the beekeeping industry. To assist and foster cooperation among members of the Association, to improve honeybee education for its members and the general public, and to seek out youth and youth programs to encourage and educate the next generation of Beekeepers.

 

ARTICLE 3 (MEMBERS)

SECTION 1: MEMBERS: Any person interested in beekeeping and the beekeeping industry may join the Association upon payment of the regular annual dues. The right to vote shall be limited to active members.

 

ARTICLE 4 (OFFICERS)

SECTION 1: OFFICERS: The officers of the Association shall be: President, Vice-President,  Secretary, and Treasurer. All officers shall be elected by a majority vote of the members present at the regular June meeting, and hold office for one (1) year beginning in July. In case of a vacancy, the remaining members of the executive committee may appoint a member to serve during the remainder of the term. No person shall be elected for any office without his or her consent.

 

ARTICLE 5 (DUES)

 

SECTION 1: DUES: The annual dues for regular members shall be $12.00* for the first member of a family or $18.00* for the entire family, and shall be payable to the Treasurer of the Association and shall be due on July 1 of the fiscal year covered by said dues. Dues shall be prorated based on the number of months remaining in the membership year*. All dues expire on June 30 of each year. Any member of the Association who becomes delinquent in payment of dues after July 31 will be dropped from the roll of membership after 60 days, and shall cease to be a member of the Association. A person, who has been dropped from the roll of membership for nonpayment of dues, may be restored to active membership by paying the current year's dues. No portion of the dues shall be used for political purposes.

 

ARTICLE 6 (MEETINGS)

 

SECTION 1: MEETINGS: There shall be regular meetings held monthly, on the third Tuesday of each month. Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

 

ARTICLE 7 (COMMITTEES)

 

SECTION 1: COMMITTEES: The EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE shall consist of all the elected officers of the Association, namely: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as the immediate past President who shall be an ex-officio member.  The Executive Committee shall have authority to transact business on behalf of the Association when it is not in session.

 

SECTION 2: The NOMINATING COMMITTEE shall consist of a minimum three members appointed by the President whose duty will be to serve as directed by the President.

 

SECTION 3: SPECIAL COMMITTEES: Such committees shall be appointed by the President consisting of a minimum of three members whose duty will be to serve as directed by the President.

 

ARTICLE 8 (DUTIES OF OFFICERS)

 

SECTION 1: PRESIDENT: The President shall preside at all meetings of the Association using regular parliamentary usage and Roberts Rules of Order. This officer shall appoint such special committees as is deemed necessary, be a member of the State Beekeepers Association, and perform such duties as the Association may direct.

 

SECTION 2: VICE-PRESIDENT: It shall be the duty of the Vice-president to perform the duties of the President in his or her absence, or upon the President's request. If the Vice-president is unable to perform this duty in the absence of the President, then the Vice-president may appoint any member to act in his or her stead. The Vice-president will be authorized to make deposits, and disburse all monies, should the Treasurer be unable to perform those duties. The Vice-president shall also serve as "program chairman," making necessary arrangements for programs and securing speakers for same.  When directed by the Association, he or she will secure a meeting place and make necessary arrangements for the regular meetings.

 

SECTION 3: SECRETARY: The Secretary shall record the minutes and proceedings of the Association at each regular meeting and keep a permanent copy. If the Secretary is unable to perform this duty, he or she may appoint any member to act in his or her stead.

 

SECTION 4: TREASURER: The Treasurer shall collect the annual dues from the members, issue membership cards and notify all members after July 31 who are delinquent in payment of dues. This officer shall be custodian of all monies received by the Association and keep full and accurate records showing the receipts and; disbursements of all monies. The Treasurer shall make a complete report on the financial standings of the Association at each regular meeting, and shall have the books audited annually. He or she will see that the Vice-president is also authorized to make deposits and disburse monies if the Treasurer is unable to perform these duties. At the end of their term all records and books shall be audited and shall deliver them to their successor, including papers, monies, and all other property of the Association which may be in their possession.

ARTICLE 9 (AMENDMENTS)

 

SECTION 1: AMENDMENTS: Any article or any section of any article of the Constitution and By-Laws may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of all members present, providing proposed amendments have been presented to the Executive Committee for their recommendations, and have been presented in writing to the entire membership at least 30 days before the vote.
